13 Spooktacular Halloween Sewing & Craft Projects to Make

Looking for a little Halloween sewing inspiration? These 13 spooky-good projects include everything from quick, scrap-busting crafts to quilts and festive home decor. Whether you have time for one last Halloween make or you're already planning for next year, there's something here for you!

There's something about sewing for Halloween that makes me extra happy. The playful prints, the ghosts and pumpkins, the bats, and all the fun ways to bring a little spooky personality into your home make this one of my favorite seasons for creative projects.

And since we're in the final stretch of October, I thought it would be fun to round up 13 Halloween sewing and crafting projects from my own creative archives. Thirteen feels like the perfect number for a spooky October list, don't you think?

Some of these projects are quick enough to squeeze in before Halloween, while others are the kind of projects you'll want to save for next year's decorating. I've included a mix of sewing tutorials, patterns, quilts, and even a couple of no-sew crafts.

Grab your favorite Halloween fabric and let's get inspired!

1. Ghost Jelly Roll Mug Rug

If you have a few jelly roll strips in your stash, this Ghost Jelly Roll Mug Rug is a fun little project to make for Halloween! The finished mug rug measures approximately 8" x 6", but you can adjust the size to suit your needs.

The spiderweb look comes from the fabric print itself, so you get that spooky effect without having to stitch a spiderweb design. It's a cute seasonal project for your sewing space or a fun handmade gift for a fellow Halloween lover.

2. DIY Halloween Boo Banner

Add a little spooky charm to your Halloween decorating with this DIY Boo Banner! This project was featured on The Stitch Show, my weekly live sewing show, where I share projects, techniques, and plenty of sewing-room fun.

If you're looking for a festive decoration to display in your sewing room or around your home, this banner is a fun way to celebrate the season.

3. Pumpkin Rope Basket

You can never have too many baskets, especially when they’re handmade! My Pumpkin Rope Basket combines the texture of rope sewing with a seasonal touch, making it a fun addition to your Halloween decor.

Use it to hold treats, sewing supplies, or other little treasures. And if you enjoy rope projects, keep this one on your list for holiday gift-making, too!

4. Halloween Jelly Roll Bow Door Hanger

Want to add a festive touch to your front door? This Halloween Jelly Roll Bow Door Hanger is a fun way to put those jelly roll strips to work!

With seasonal fabric and a little creativity, you can make a statement piece that welcomes guests with Halloween spirit. It's also a great reminder that jelly rolls can be used for so much more than quilts.

5. Ghost Quilt with Scallop Borders

This ghost quilt from last year is still one of my favorite Halloween makes! The ghostly design paired with scalloped borders gives it a playful finish that's perfect for the season.

Seasonal quilts are such a fun way to experiment with colors, prints, and details you might not use in your everyday quilting. If you're already dreaming about your next Halloween quilt, let this one inspire you!

6. Halloween Candy Star Quilt

Halloween quilts don't have to be all ghosts and goblins. Sometimes, all you need are festive fabrics and a classic quilt design to create something special.

My Halloween Candy Star Quilt brings seasonal fabric into a timeless quilting style. It's a great project to revisit when you're planning next year's Halloween sewing.

7. Halloween Quilted Sweatshirt

Who says Halloween spirit has to stay at home? A quilted sweatshirt is a fun way to bring your love of sewing into your wardrobe!

This project is a reminder that quilting techniques can be used for more than traditional quilts. If you love wearing your handmade creations, a festive sweatshirt is a fun way to celebrate spooky season.

8. Halloween Jelly Roll Rug

If you love jelly roll projects, a Halloween Jelly Roll Rug is a fun way to bring seasonal fabrics into your home. Turn those strips into a practical project that can be displayed year after year.

This is one to save if you're looking for a bigger seasonal sewing project to work on well before next Halloween!

9. Halloween Charm Pack Pillow

Looking for a way to use a charm pack for something other than a quilt? This Halloween pillow was featured in Episode 2 of The Stitch Show.

Seasonal pillows are an easy way to change up your decor without committing to a large project. Make one for your sofa, sewing room, or favorite reading chair, and bring it out every October.

10. Haunted Mansion Quilt

Nothing says spooky season quite like a haunted mansion! This quilt is full of Halloween personality and is a great example of how fabric choices and a strong central design can create a seasonal statement piece.

If you're a Halloween quilting enthusiast, this is one to add to your inspiration board for a future project.

11. Witches Garden Quilt Wall Hanging

Bring a little witchy magic to your walls with my Witches Garden Quilt Wall Hanging. Seasonal wall hangings are a fun way to decorate smaller spaces, and they’re perfect for showing off a design that might be too specific for an everyday quilt.

This is another project to save for your Halloween sewing plans, whether you display it in your sewing room or give it a special place in your seasonal decorating.

12. DIY No-Sew Plush Pumpkin

Need a last-minute Halloween project? This DIY No-Sew Plush Pumpkin is a great option!

You don't even need your sewing machine for this one, making it a fun craft for using up fabric scraps. It's a great way to make something festive when you don't have time to start a larger sewing project.

If Halloween has snuck up on you this year, this is your sign that there's still time to make something cute!

13. DIY Chalk Paint Wood Pumpkin

For the final project in our spooky collection, we're stepping away from the sewing machine!

This DIY Chalk Paint Wood Pumpkin is a fun seasonal craft that adds another handmade touch to your Halloween decorating. I love mixing sewing and other creative projects, and sometimes it's nice to try something a little different.
